Care innovation

A key reason why Limburg Brain Injury Centre (LBIC) was created is the current fragmentation in care after brain injury. It is often difficult for patients to find the care they need, even when it is available. The LBIC, therefore, works with regional hospitals to evaluate existing care and develop innovative care facilities and care products. This includes, for example, establishing an outpatient brain injury facility where psychosocial care is provided for the long-term consequences of brain injury to patients and families. LBIC also wants a facility in every region around the Limburg hospitals where care needs of patients with brain injury are identified and referred to follow-up care, that can take place based on a clear regional social map. This also assumes that the referral flows for patients with brain injury in every region around the Limburg hospitals are clear, so that as few people as possible fall between the cracks. With these objectives, the LBIC aims to ensure that the proper care reaches the right patient.
