Short description

I work in the intensive care unit of MUMC+ as a neurologist-intensivist and as a researcher at the School of Mental Health and NeuroSciences (MHeNS) of Maastricht University. I trained as a neurologist and intensivist at the University Medical Center Groningen. I am also an honorary research associate at the Brain Physics laboratory of the University of Cambridge (UK). Furthermore, I am the founder of the BrainBattle fund of the Maastricht University (2017) and initiator of the Doctors for Safe Cycling collective (2021). I am an editor of the Neurocritical Care journal.

Neuro-intensive care; Improving the (continuous) cerebral monitoring techniques in critically ill patients; Improving cerebral circulation and control mechanisms (cerebral autoregulation) in critically ill patients and patients with severe (primary) brain injury (e.g. stroke/TBI/infections); Draw attention to the consequences of serious brain injury; Prevention of severe traumatic brain injury. Promotion of wearing a bicycle helmet.; Improving the safety of professional cycling
